HealVideo

Fix a video that was cut off when the camera died

When an action camera, drone or dashcam loses power mid-recording, it never finishes saving the file. The footage up to that moment is usually still on the card.

What happened to the file

The camera was writing video to the card and planned to add the index at the end. Without power, the end never came. You are left with a file full of video that no player will open.

How to repair it

  1. Copy the broken file from the card to your computer.
  2. Drop it into HealVideo. It recognises some cameras on its own: DJI Osmo Action 3 videos recorded at 1080p 50 fps can be repaired with no extra clip.
  3. For other cameras, add a short clip recorded on the same camera with the same settings. Results vary by camera, and HealVideo says plainly when only part of a video could be saved.
  4. Start the repair. The new file has the video up to the moment the camera stopped.

Help your camera get supported

Each camera needs its decoder settings once. If you have a camera HealVideo doesn’t know yet, you can share its settings from a working clip on this website. The video is read in your browser and never uploaded.

What can be repaired

Recording cut short, index still there
HealVideo copies everything that is still readable into a new file that plays.
Index missing (“moov atom not found”), H.265 video
HealVideo finds the frames in the raw data and builds a new file. It needs a camera profile or one working clip from the same camera.
Index missing, H.264 video
Needs the free tool untrunc installed next to HealVideo, plus one working clip from the same camera.
Videos deleted from an exFAT memory card
HealVideo reads an image of the card and puts each video’s scattered pieces back in order.

Repaired files from the frame finder have video but no sound yet. Damage inside the picture itself (glitches in a file whose structure is fine) is not something HealVideo can undo.
